ROUGH TERRAIN TELESCOPIC MATERIALS HANDLER (TELEPORTER) LIFT TRUCK OPERATOR TRAINING

What is a Rough Terrain Telescopic Materials Handler (Teleporter)?
Answer: Normally used by farmers the Rough Terrain Telescopic Materials Handler or Teleporter is capable of travelling over off-road terrain, transporting normally up to 3000kg on the forks up to a height of 16 metres and a reducing load weight can be placed up to 10 metres away from the truck, some teleporters are fitted with stabilisers to increase their lifting capacity. These machines can load farm vehicles and road going vehicles, they are also useful at handling materials in waste transfer sites, production facilities and building sites.

REACH LIFT TRUCK OPERATOR TRAINING

What is a Reach Lift Truck?
Answer: the operator sits to one side of the machine and travelling forwards takes you to the right and backwards to your left in the drivers seat, the fork carriage reaches forwards to collect loads - hence the name a reach truck.

POWERED PEDESTRIAN PALLET STACKER LIFT TRUCK OPERATOR TRAINING

What is a Pedestrian Powered Pallet Stacker?
Answer: Used by companies than only need to off load vans with a pallet load, often bought by businesses that only need to handle a few pallets each day or used by larger companies specifically for vehicle loading at loading bays - where the lift truck drives into the back of the HGV, parked on the loading dock.

EXPERIENCED / RE- CERTICATION / CONVERSION COURSES
for people who can supply one of the below:

-copy of current, valid, existing accredited certificate(s)
-copy of lapsed accredited certificate as proof of previous qualification and/or experience 
-letter from an employer verifying you have at least 15 hours of operating experience in the past year (without this written verification we would have to consider you a novice operator).

After successfully completing training you are registered on the accrediting bodies database and receive a certificate and identity card.

CATEGORY F TRACTOR LICENCE

Description

  • This is a day course for anyone wanting to take their tractor test (Category F), but don’t know what is involved and don’t have their own suitable tractor (Max 2.45 metres wide)

  • 16 year olds can take their tractor test, or you can wait until you pass your car test you’ll get category F added automatically.

What you’ll achieve:

  • By the end of this day course you will have taken your tractor test, and hopefully passed!

  • You will use our Massey Ferguson tractor, and learn how to use all it’s controls.

  • Using our private manoeuvring area, you will be able to practice driving forward and reversing around cones.

  • Once the test is passed, 16 year olds you can only drive tractors less than 2.45 metres wide and tow trailers less than 2.45 metres wide with 2 wheels, or 4 wheels close-coupled (close together). At age 17 these restrictions are removed.

Requirements:

  • You must be 16 or over.

  • Have a UK Provisional driving licence (can apply at age 15 years and 9months).

  • No theory tests for tractor tests.

CATEGORY B+E CAR & TRAILER

The Category B Licence, allows vehicles to be coupled with a trailer up to 750kgs MAM (allowing a combined weight up to 4.25 tonnes MAM), or a trailer over 750kgs providing the MAM of the trailer does not exceed the unladen weight of the towing vehicle and the combination does not exceed 3.5 tonnes MAM.
To Tow heavier trailers then category B+E would be needed.
The Category B+E licence allows vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes MAM to be combined with trailers in excess of 750kgs MAM. In order to gain the entitlement new category B licence holders have to pass a further practical test for category B+E. There is no category B+E theory test. For driver licensing purposes there are no vehicle/trailer weight ratio limits for category B+E.
We offer experienced instruction using our own vehicle.
We would recommend that all prospective students take advantage of our Driver Assessment. The assessment not only gives the student an insight into what is involved in driving B+E, but also one of our instructors the opportunity to evaluate the number of training days required for the student to reach the D.S.A. Test standard.
The assessment is for two hours and includes reversing on our own large manoeuvring area, as well as driving on the Public Highway. Assessments are normally conducted Monday-Saturday between 8.00a.m. and 4.00p.m. Although a limited number are available on evenings and weekends.
Courses are normally conducted between 8.00a.m and 4.00p.m Monday-Saturday. A Training Day will be for four hours (one student to one instructor). Evening training (during the summer months) from 4.00p.m is also available.
Passing a B+E driving test allows you to tow a trailer above 750kg and exceed the 3500kg train weight limit.

CATEGORY C (CLASS 2 RIGID)

PLEASE NOTE: An L.G.V. Category 'C' licence entitles the holder (who must be 18 years of age) to drive any L.G.V. Rigid vehicle regardless of the number of axles. Category 'C' licence holders are limited to towing a trailer NOT EXCEEDING 750kgs (if you require to tow a trailer in excess of 750kgs a Category 'CE' licence is required.

At Welwyn the training is of the highest quality and our instructors hold Driving Standards Agency registration. Our training programme provides real experience on the Public Highway, in all different road conditions, and a facility for using our own manoeuvring area.

We would recommend that all prospective students take advantage of our Driver Assessment. The assessment not only gives the student an insight into what is involved in driving an L.G.V. it also gives our instructor the opportunity to evaluate the number of training days required for the student to reach the current D.S.A. test standard. The assessment is for two hours and includes manoeuvring on our own site as well as driving on the Public Highway.

Assessments are normally conducted Monday - Friday between 8:00a.m. and 4:00p.m. Although a limited number of training slots are available on evenings and weekends.

Students require the Provisional L.G.V. entitlement adding to their current car drivers licence before they can attend an assessment or undertake a course of lessons. We can supply the relevant application forms (D2) application for an L.G.V. or P.C.V. Driving Licence plus (D4) Medical Report (the Medical Report must be completed by a G.P. whom does not necessarily have to be your own G.P.)

There is no cost for the Provisional Entitlement be added to your current licence.

Courses are from 8:00a.m. until 4:00pm Monday - Saturday. All of our training is conducted on a one to one basis and usually lasts for four hours. Evening and weekend training is also available, please contact us for further details.

The cost of a Category C and Category C+E Driving Test is £115.00.

It is necessary for candidates wishing to obtain a Category C Licence to first attain a Driving Standards Agency L.G.V. Theory Pass Certificate. The Theory Test is made up in two parts, the first part is multiple choice and will contain 100 questions of which you will be required to answer 85 of them correctly. The second part, known as the Hazard Perception element, contains 19 clips (20 hazards) and you are required to attain 67 out of a possible 100 marks.

It is not possible to book a practical Driving Test for anyone until the result of the Theory Test is known and although a successful candidate is issued with the necessary certification immediately we would recommend that the Theory Test appointment is booked at least two weeks prior to the required driving Course dates.

The cost of the Theory Test Fees are:
Multiple Choice: £26.00
Hazard Perception £11.00

Students wishing to progress to Category CE will be required to send their Category C Pass Certificate together with their current U.K. Drivers Licence, to the D.V.L.A., Swansea to have the full L.G.V. Category C and PROVISIONAL L.G.V. Category CE Licence entitlement added before they can book an L.G.V. Category CE Course and Driving Test.

You can now pass your test in an automatic but gain a full manual licence with no restrictions! After passing your Category C test, you are entitled to drive a rigid vehicle over 7500kg (7.5t).

If you wish to tow a trailer over 750kg behind a Category C Vehicle, you have to pass a C+E test. You do not have to take a theory type test to add this onto your Category C Licence.

CATEGORY C1 (7.5TONS) AMBULANCE / HORSEBOX / MOTORHOME

As from the 1st January 1997 the Category C1 (3.5 tons - 7.5 tons) is no longer an automatic upgrade on a car licence as it was prior to this date.

From this date anyone wanting to drive vehicles over 3.5 tons have to take a C1 a test.

PLEASE NOTE: A Category C1 licence entitles the holder (who must be at least 18 years of age) to drive vehicles exceeding 3.5 tonnes but not exceeding 7.5 tonnes. Category C1 licence holders are limited to towing a trailer NOT EXCEEDING 750kgs (if you require to tow a trailer in excess of 750kgs a 'C1+E' licence is required.

At Welwyn our training is of the highest quality and our instructors are Driving Standards Agency Approved Driving Instructors. (D.S.A.A.D.I.) Our training programme provides on the road experience of the Public Highway, with the availability for tuition and manoeuvring on our own site.

We offer experienced instruction using our own vehicle or you may supply your own providing it fulfils current DSA test standard criteria.

We would recommend that all prospective students take advantage of our Driver Assessment. The assessment not only gives the student an insight into what is involved in driving an L.G.V. it also gives our instructor the opportunity to evaluate the number of training days required for the student to reach the current D.S.A. Test standard. The Assessment normally lasts for two hours and includes manoeuvring on our own site as well as driving on the Public Highway.

Assessments are normally conducted Monday Friday between 8:00a.m. And 4:00p.m. Although there are a limited number of training slots available on evenings and weekends.

A Category D1 licence entitles the holder to operate a Minibus with a seating capacity (including the driver) exceeding 9 but not exceeding 17 for hire and reward.

We offer experienced instruction using a vehicle provided by the customer.

At Welwyn the training is of the highest quality and our instructors are Driving Standards Agency Approved Driving Instructors (D.S.A.A.D.I.) Our Training Programme provides on the road experience of the Public Highway, in all different road conditions, with the availability for using our own manoeuvring area.

DRIVER CPC

What is Driver CPC?

Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) introduces a new initial qualification to new drivers, which increases the amount of knowledge that drivers need before they can drive.

Who does it apply to?

All new and existing drivers wanting to drive professionally or require an LGV or PCV licence in order to do their job are required to do it.

Inital Driver CPC

For first time holders or newly qualified drivers, we help with Module 2 Case Study Theory & Module 4 Practical Demonstration test to prepare for work as a vocational driver.

MODULE 2 (CPC CASE STUDY THEORY TEST)

This module can be revised from our online revision which can be accessed once you book your Module 2.

The test itself consists of a case study test conducted at the Theory Test Centre. It lasts approximately 30 minutes.

MODULE 4 (PRACTICAL TEST)

The practical test involves walking around a stationary vehicle with the examiner, demonstrating that you can complete several crucial checks and lasts approximately 30 minutes.

At Welwyn LGV we make sure you’re fully prepared and take you through various question and answer sheets On the day we have a 4 hour training session to gain your knowledge before taking your CPC Module 4 Practical test.

Periodic Driver CPC

For existing licence holders who need all or part of the 35 hours of training, either for the first time, or as part of their five yearly renewal.

Any LGV Driver who obtained their LGV licence after September 2009 must complete 35 hours periodic training within 5 years from the date of completion of their Driver CPC Initial Qualification.

This 35 hours is broken into 5 modules, each lasting 7 hours. The Driver CPC Periodic Training Requirement is there to keep your skill set up-to-date, and build valuable new skills to improve and further your career.
